“Summertime and the living is easy” – so say the words of the song from the musical “Porgy and Bess”. Here on Long Island, summer is especially attractive, and the living is anything BUT easy. Dwelling among nearly three million people and a hoard of seasonal visitors can severely add to existing stress levels. The choice is to brace ourselves, grin and bear it, or develop our own plan of escape.

Whether we are just puttering around outside, enjoying a morning run or an evening stroll, planning day trips or disappearing for several weeks on a much-needed vacation, we have a distinct advantage. As Christians, we need to regularly be reminded that the source of our love, peace and joy is always present with us. He is the person of the indwelling Holy Spirit who supplies us all that is needed for true ‘easy living’.

The world is continually regulated by external conditions and circumstances which can change in an instant. The believer is assured of a constant and consistent companion, a helper in time of trouble. So, whatever this summer season brings your way and wherever it leads you, don’t leave home without the One who promised to never leave you or forsake you. Doing so will guarantee you one of the best and blessed summers yet.
